BREIKÖPP
2011

HD video, 10 min.

The video is based on the cliché of the ”break-up scene”, as seen in hundreds of Hollywood movies. It can be read as both a short film and as the video documentation of a performance: A man has decided to ditch his girlfriend, and has chosen a cozy, romantic restaurant in order to do so, in the hope that ”she will not make a scene”. However, as the conversation takes place in Icelandic, a language the man speaks very poorly, it also becomes a battle wherein the girlfriend, who speaks her native language, can twist and turn the meaning of a word or a phrase in a split second, subsequently steering the conversation in whatever direction she wants.
