COLLOQUIUM
2016

HD video, 17 minutes.

Like many of my earlier, performance-based projects, this video explores language, but from a slightly different angle. Against the backdrop of Trastevere in Rome, I talk to Andrea, a native Roman, about everyday stuff: I speak slightly broken Italian, Andrea of course speaks it fluently. Mostly, we chit chat about the history of Rome, traffic jams, the city’s architecture, Italian local identity, Italian food, and so on. In the finished version of the video I make use of what I find to be a very interesting aspect of film and tv in countries like Italy, namely dubbing. With help from translators and actors our conversation is dubbed from Italian into Classical Latin.
